ABOUT
Micaela Carballo is an Argentine film composer and conductor based in Los Angeles, creating distinctive musical worlds for independent films, documentaries, animation and fiction across Latin America, Spain and the United States.
Her approach to film scoring begins with the story, the psychology of its characters and the director's vision. She enjoys finding a musical concept that feels inseparable from the world of each film, whether through orchestral writing, Latin American instruments and rhythms, electronic textures, live musicians or unconventional sounds and objects. She also loves experimenting with the instruments and sounds around her, often playing and recording instruments from her own collection, including guitars, charango, ronroco, flutes from different parts of the world, percussion instruments and her own voice. For her, these instruments are not simply part of a musical palette; they are a starting point for discovering unexpected sounds and creating a unique sonic identity for each film.
Born in Balcarce, Argentina, Micaela began studying piano at the age of six and later graduated in Music Composition and Choral Conducting from the University of La Plata. She received a Fundación Carolina scholarship to complete a Master's degree in Film Scoring at ESMUC in Barcelona and later completed a second Master's degree in Film Scoring at the Royal College of Music in London.
Alongside her work as a composer, Micaela has an extensive background in conducting. She served as deputy conductor of the Argentine Air Force Band and conducted the first women's orchestra of the Argentine Armed Forces. In 2019, she participated in the Los Angeles Film Conducting Intensive, where she conducted and recorded her own compositions with the Hollywood Studio Symphony at Warner Bros. Studios.
Her recent work includes the animated feature Norbert (Disney Spain), nominated for the 2026 Goya Awards, the Argentine feature Hermanados, the documentary Jaguar Spirit (National Geographic), and La Inmensidad, a feature film for which she composed and produced the music, recorded in London and mixed at Abbey Road Studios.
Her score for the animated film Dubicel was recorded with the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra and received Best Original Score awards at the Golden Nugget Film Festival in the UK, the NYCA New York Cinematography Award and the Buenos Aires International Film Festival.
She has composed and recorded music internationally with musicians and orchestras in Argentina, Europe, Latin America and the United States. Her work has also been performed by the Orquesta Filarmónica de Puerto Rico, the Camerata Argentina de Mujeres and the Argentine National Symphony Orchestra.
For Micaela, every film is an opportunity to discover a new musical language—one that can reveal the emotions, characters and worlds that exist beyond the images.
